Event Information

Description

Sea kayakers! Here's a cool opportunity to use our equipment and skills to help athletes accomplish something extraordinary.

Description from the volunteer website:

Swim - Kayak [Swim course - Lake Monona]
September 12th 5:30 AM - 10:00 AM
Kayaks volunteers are stationed along the swim course to serve as directional guides for athletes and safety purposes. Kayaks are often the first responder to an athlete in need of assistance so, you must be confident in your ability to keep your kayak upright if an athlete needs to hold on to your boat. If an athlete needs further assistance or rescue the kayaker will signal for lifeguards who are stationed along the course on boats or jet skis.

You must have your own kayak. Sea or Touring style kayaks are preferred due to their inherent built-in flotation. Pre-race overnight storage for kayaks is available to make race morning easier. (We can use the Hoofer fleet)

Requirements include:

· Providing your own equipment: kayak, paddle, PFD, & whistle. (Hoofers has all of these)

· Attend one of the virtual volunteer meetings.

Prior to the race you will be sent training information on how to provide effective kayak support. All swim volunteers are required to attend ONE of the two Virtual Swim Volunteer Meetings race week.

You will receive an email from our Kayak Captain with a survey to learn more about your kayaking background, gear you have, and experience. This survey will determine your assignment on the course.
