Event Information

Description

The Mecan River is my favorite central Wisconsin river. The river is spring fed with crystal clear water and a predominantly sand bottom. We'll paddle an very narrow upper section off river that was only recently (mostly) cleared of obstructions. While there aren't rapids, there are riffles and fast current with sharp turns. There are also likely to be a couple short portages around downed trees. Good boat control is important. As such, I'm requiring an R-1 paddler rating in an open canoe, although we may be able to take a couple people with a lake rating if we can pair them with someone else with an R2p or above rating.

We'll meet at Park Street Circle at 8am to load boats and then we'll drive 1.5 hours north to the river. Expect to be on the river for about 4 hours.

Things to bring: lunch, drinking water, warm when wet clothes, rain gear, a spare change of clothes in a dry bag (I will have extra dry bags available). Rubber boots are nice to have to keep your feet dry as there is a good chance you'll have to step out the canoe at some point. Also bring a few dollars for gas money for the drivers and in case we stop for ice cream or to eat on the way home.

The club has canoes, paddles, and pfds available for use.

I will need to have another driver with a car that is able to carry a tandem canoe.

FYI, I'll be out of town from 10/10 - 10/16 and won't be available to respond to questions regarding this trip during that time.
