Beginner Whitewater Kayaking: Fall Colors Edition
Paddling location:
Northeast Wisconsin
Requirements:
R1 rating earned during an Intro kayaking/canoeing lesson
Brief Description:
The Fall Colors Whitewater Trip is a Hoofers Tradition. As the trees turn color, the rivers rise again, a group of Hoofers will head up to the Wisconsin North Woods to sneak in those last few runs down some classic Wisconsin Whitewater Sections like the: Wolf, Pike, Red or Peshtigo before we are back to paddling in Swimming Pools
We leave from the Memorial Union around 5 pm drive up to Hoofer Land Friday night, paddle Saturday and Sunday, then come home on Sunday Evening. Friday and Sunday's Dinners are purchased by you on the road, but the rest of the meals are provided. The cost of the trip will be about $40. Camping at Hooper land will require a tent as well as a warm sleeping bag. Cool weather outdoor clothing and gear is also important.
Goals:
We will build upon basic skills taught in R1 lessons but in faster moving water and class II rapids. This trip will teach you river running skills and safe boating practices on class II rivers. This would include river safety, swimming in rapids, identifying river features and hazards, reading class II rapids, and running class II rapids using skills learned in Intro lesson.
