Event Information

Description

This trip requires a lake rating in the boat that you will paddle. Standard swim test is also required. This primarily for canoes.

Kayakers can come! However, because of the cold water temperature, I will probably not be teaching R1 skills for kayaks. Any kayakers wanting to attend need to wear appropriate cold-water gear, including wetsuit and semi-dry top or better.

I would prefer to meet the group at the put-in, so I am looking for helpers to organize the collecting of gear and people from the Union and bringing it back to the Union afterwards. Please contact me.

Comment if you can drive, and I may be able to open the trip to more participants!

Trip Agenda:

Those using Hoofer gear will meet at Memorial Union at 8:00AM to gather gear.

At 9:00 AM, meet at the parking lot at the south end of Badfish Creek State Wildlife Area, along Old Stage Road (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Memorial+Union+Terrace,800+Langdon+St,+Madison,+WI+53706/3058+Old+Stage+Rd,+Stoughton,+WI+53589/@42.9650773,-89.4558995,11z/).

We will run a shuttle, then paddle down to take out at Cooksville/138, or Riley Rd, or Casey Rd. depending on how long we want to make the trip.

We will cover the foundations of paddling moving water, including ferries and entering and exiting eddies.

Possibly stop for lunch in Stoughton if the group is feeling it!
