Description

Beginning Whitewater kayaking on 4th of July Weekend

Join us for a beginning whitewater kayaking trip in beautiful North eastern Wisconsin.  Summer is the best time to learn kayaking because the temperatures are hot and the waters are cool and refreshing.  We will kayak rivers during the day and tent camp in the evenings over the Fourth of July weekend between July 3rd and July 7th.

This is a beginner whitewater trip where we will focus on the basics.

Will meet Wednesday July 3rd at 4:00 PM to load kayaks & depart.  Will return Sunday July 7th after 9:00 PM in evening.

We may increase trip size once kayakers who can act as support boaters are found and or if drivers are found who can carry kayaks.  Please contact trip leaders if support kayakers or drivers can only join us later on the weekend.

If you can only attend for a portion of the weekend - Thursday & Friday or Saturday & Sunday - please contact us with your preference or intensions, so we can see if arrangements can be made for kayakers join us for part of the weekend.

Requirements:

Will need to have taken a Kayak Lake Lesson, passed a swim test & obtained an R1 rating in a kayak.  If you haven't met this requirement yet, we hope to offer lessons throughout the summer months.

Cost:

Approximate cost is between $45.00 - $75.00.  Money to be collected at the beginning of the trip.  Meals will be provided.  Extra money should be brought for dinner on Wednesday (7/3/2019) drive up and dinner on Sunday (7/7/2019) drive back.

We need your help!

We are looking for students to volunteer for the organizing team. If you're interested in how to organize any type of event, this is a great introduction! I will give you as much guidance as you need.  Please email me: Tom St Germaine at tsgmadsan@gmail.com

We need safety boaters and instructors! If more safety boaters and drivers sign up, we can open the trip to more participants!

What to bring:

On the river, bring swim suit, non-cotton synthetic shirt, footwear, water bottle, sunglasses with a strap, strap for prescription glasses, nose plugs, dry bag for packing a lunch (optional) and large towel or large beach towel.  We will kayak in the rain as long as there is no thunder.  The club has paddling jackets for member to use for rainy conditions.  If you get cold easily, please bring light-weight thermal layer to wear, if needed.

For off the river, bring health insurance card, driver's license, extra money, rain jacket (rain pants optional), shirt, pants, shoes, socks, flash light or LED head lamp, sunscreen, bug dope or mosquito head net, drinking cup or mug, bowl, knife, fork, spoon, (plastic sandwich container - optional), personal toiletries (toothbrush, tooth paste, ear plugs...), camp pillow, sleeping bag, mattress pad, personal tent or Hoofer club tent. May want to bring along light weight jacket or windbreaker (hat, gloves) in case evening temperatures are cool.  (Weather Underground Mountain WI: https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/wi/mountain/KWIMOUNT13?cm_ven=localwx_10day)
