Event Information

Description
The canoe lake lesson is the starting point for any canoeing you wish to do with Hoofers. It is distinct from the kayak lake lesson. We'll cover basic skills needed to control your canoe on flatwater---going straight, turning, and bracing. We'll also cover Hoofer rules governing the use of our canoes and equipment on Lake Mendota and club trips.

You need to have taken a canoe lake lesson to participate in any club canoeing trip, such as the upcoming Canoeing Fall Colors Trip in October.

We'll meet outside the Boathouse at Memorial Union at 2:30 pm. Come dressed in appropriate canoeing attire---shoes or sports sandals that can get wet, a swimsuit or shorts, a light shirt for sun protection and maybe a hat and sunglasses (with a strap). With cooler weather in the forecast I'd suggest also bringing a light fleece or wool sweater or jacket---maybe some type of shell, too, if it is windy. A towel and sunscreen are advised, too. I think it will be too cold to do swim tests; if you need one of these, there should be opportunities to do this indoors at the SERF or Natatorium pools before the Fall Colors Canoeing trip.
