Event Information

Description
Bats are facing severe threats due to White Nose Syndrome, a fungus disease killing huge numbers of bats across North America. DNR is offering Outing Club a free training workshop on how to use the acoustic bat monitor, a device that recognizes the different bat species based on their frequency. WNS has recently been detected in WI and this is your chance to help the DNR collect bat population data as we fight WNS.
  • After this workshop you will be able to check out the device and collect data reports, while hiking in the woods or boating around the lakes.
  • Learning how to use the acoustic bat monitor can also be a good networking opportunity for those interested in meeting and working with the DNR.
The training will take place at the Arboretum with DNR staff and then we'll be making a small survey using the device so we get hands-on experience. Please bring a flashlight if you have, otherwise the club can offer you one (please indicate when signing up).
