Event Information

Description
NB 9/2/15: THIS TRIP IS CLOSED.

We'll paddle and camp the Border Brule, along the boundary between WI and the upper peninsula of Michigan. The upper segments of the river are small and have a wilderness feel. This is a great opportunity to learn canoe camping if you've never done it, or a great chance to get out in the woods on a river if you are experienced.

This a beginner-friendly trip. The river has current, so this is technically a moving water trip rather than a quietwater trip.  We'll work on boat control skills as we go along, do a little swimming and sit around a fire cooking in the evening.

We'll paddle around 15-20 miles of the river over two days. We'll finish on the river Sunday afternoon, and spend Sunday night at "Hooferland", the club's private campground in northern WI near Crivitz, where the camping is easy and pleasant. On Monday we'll paddle something nearby and head back to Madison.

Preference will be given to anyone who wishes to co-lead, and those who can drive and haul a canoe, and newer club members. We will practice low-impact camping, so if you need lots of luxuries, this is probably not the the trip for you.

You will need to provide your own clothing and sleeping bag. The club has tents, canoes/paddles/PFDs and sleeping pads for you to use.

Cost should be around $50, and I will collect deposits of $50 by August 28th.
