Event Information

Description
Hi everyone!  If there isn't enough going on this weekend, a group of us thought it would be fun to add another event to the calendar: Paddle & Portage!

Come join a group of your fellow Hoofers in this fun and quirky Madison event.  This canoe/kayak race features a 1.5-mile paddle on Lake Mendota, followed a 1-mile portage across the Isthmus, and ending with a 1.5-mile paddle on Lake Monona.  There will be post-race festivities at Olin Park following the race, of course!

All are welcome, whether you prefer to paddle in a tandem canoe, solo canoe, or kayak.  This is meant to be a fun and social event, but for club purposes we ask that you have completed your appropriate lake ratings and swim test.  You can still register today (7/15) online for $45, but if you don't make it there will still be race-day registration on Saturday for $50/paddler.

We'll meet at the Union to pick up boats at 7am on Saturday, then paddle to the race start at James Madison Park to set up and and pick up packets for anyone who needs to register or missed packet pick-up on Friday.  After the race, we'll take a leisurely and fun paddle back to the Union (either portaging across the Isthmus, or taking the more adventurous route across the locks) to return all of our gear.  Hopefully we'll be back in time for everyone to recover for the trip to Waupaca the next day!

So far there are three of us registered in a tandem canoe and kayak.  Please indicate when signing up if you have a club partner in mind or plan to paddle solo.  We have registered for the Mass Start so we can stay together and enjoy the race as a group, hopefully we can request to be released in the same wave on race day.

Cheers!
