Event Information

Description
We will get to explore this horizontal cave for about 2 hours and see its stalagmites and stalactites. Whether you are new in caving or a previous caver, this trip is appropriate for all of you.

Here's the plan:
We’ll park about a 20 minute walk from the cave, where we’ll hike along the edge of the highway, across a cornfield, across a creek, and up a trail in the woods to the cave (this is strangely the approved access to the somewhat unmarked cave!)
There are a couple of places where there is water and mud so you may get a little wet and muddy. There are also a couple of places where you’ll crawl through confined openings in the rock (the birthing canal and down into the mud room.) Harnesses and ropes are not needed for this cave.

We will use a fleet vehicle for this trip and the cost per person is $12 (please call or stop by the OPO to pay for this trip).

What to bring:
Hoofers will provide you with helmet and head lamp.
  • clothes that you don't mind getting covered in mud (long sleeve shirt, and long pants)
  • shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and covered in mud (thin knee pvc rubber boots work well, but aren’t necessary) (Closed toe water shoes may work as well, if they are comfortable walking in)
  • full set of clothes to change into before we drive back
  • clean shoes to wear for the drive back
  • trash bag to put wet/muddy gear in afterwards
  • towel to wipe off the mud afterwards
  • knee pads (recommended, but optional)
  • work/gardening gloves (to keep hands mud free) (Walgreens usually have these)
  • water/food (we may take a quick lunch in the cave)
Due to the spread of White Nose Syndrome, equipment that has been used in caves outside WI can NOT be used in this trip.
