Event Information

Description

Hoofers,

When we have more drivers with cars we can expand the trip.

This is the official announcement for the 46th annual Hoofers Fall Colors trip! (we saw a picture from 2011 that said 33rd annual).  This is a VERY beginner-friendly canoeing and sea kayaking camping trip. We will all meet at Park Street Circle (PSC) on Friday, Oct. 4th between 3-6pm, depending on your driver.

Pre-trip meetings:  We need to have you there to help.

*A Pre-trip meeting for everyone on Tuesday, Oct 1st (after the regular meeting) where we will talk about the trip and start selecting the gear.

*A Pre-trip meeting to load cars and boats on Thursday evening at 6:00pm in preparation for Friday departure.

FRIDAY!!  You will meet your driver at Park Street Circle (PSC) at a time you arrange with your driver.

We will load-up, and head out to Wyalusing State Park Friday. We will camp there Friday night. Saturday we will wake up and hike around the park for a bit. We will check out a couple of scenic views! After this, we will head to the put-in on the Wisconsin River. From here we will paddle to our favorite sandbar camping spot. This is where we will have a gigantic fire (which may or may not include dragging a dead tree out from the woods and burning it!!) and have a spectacular dinner that will include salad, garlic bread, and cheese tortellini (no meat). The following day we will put in on the Wisconsin River again, and paddle to the Hwy 18 bridge. We should be back to PSC by 5pm on Sunday, Oct.6th.

The details of the trip are as follows:

1. Cost of the trip will be $60 per person, which will be paid via venmo to Dennis by this Friday 9/27 now Tuesday 10/1. If you do not pay by this date, you will be removed from the trip.

2. Cost will cover gas, camping fees, boat-user fees, and breakfast/lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and dinner on Saturday night (bring money to stop at Culver’s on Friday night on the way there and Sunday night on the way back)

3. Paddling gear will be provided (i.e. paddle, PFD, sprayskirt, etc.). We will send out a more detailed gear-list for personal gear (i.e. Sleeping bag/tent/clothes/etc.)

4. If you want to canoe, you will need a canoe lake rating / canoe orientation and have completed the swim test. For sea kayaking, you will have to have an SK0 rating, have done the swim test, and will be required to wear a wetsuit on the trip.  It depends on trailer/roof rack space if we can take any sea kayaks.

5. Refund Policy: You will be refunded in full for the trip cost if your spot is filled by another member. Unfortunately, if your spot is not filled, we cannot refund you.

**This trip could be opened to more participants if we have more drivers, so please fill out the attached questionnaire and let us know if you can drive!! If you are on the waitlist and are able to drive, please reach out to us directly at dmossholder@gmail.com
