Event Information

Description

**Rescheduled for 7/29 due to a family emergency**

Does this sound like you? You've taken some lessons from fellow Hoofers, maybe you've even been on a cool trip or two (or ten!), and now you're thinking about wanting to lead a trip of your own with the club. Well, this is the workshop for you!

We'll gather in the Mendota Lounge of the Memorial Union after the regular HOC meeting (which is every Tuesday at 7pm in the same OutdoorUW space). We'll gather with some food and/or beverages to have a casual conversation about some things to keep in mind when leading trips with the club. We'll go over things like policies regarding the use of club gear for trips, when water safety approvals are needed (e.g., whitewater paddling trips), other safety considerations, and tasks to delegate (e.g., food purchasing/prep, organizing drivers, gear-ups, etc.). Once you've led a trip or two with the club, this stuff becomes mindless, but if you've never lead a trip before it's helpful to think about beforehand.

Also, perhaps you've been in the club for a while and have experienced one of the aweomse flagship Hoofers Outing Club trips that a fellow club member has organized (e.g. Memorial Day weekend whitewater, Labor Day weekend in Door County, Fall Colors canoeing, whitewater Fall Colors, or Delta Lodge!). We'll also take some time to talk about when these trips generally happen and what it might take to organize (or co-organize) a trip like this. I can hook up future trip leaders with past leaders of these trips as well.

So whether you're looking to lead a trip for a day or for a week, come on by and check out this workshop to go over the basics!
