Event Information

Description

This canoe lesson, distinct from our kayak lesson, teaches you how to work as a team to make a tandem canoe go where you want to go, and gives you the canoe lake rating needed to go on outing club canoe trips such as the May 10 Horicon Marsh trip. Meet at 2034 Yahara Place (E Madison on Lake Monona by the volleyball court in Yahara Place Park) (google for directions). We  will then transport the canoes to Starkweather Creek by Olbrich gardens. This slow creek was chosen because the lakes are stiil to cold for safe instructional boating, and its treed shore also offers opportunity for bird watching.  I will have the canoes, paddles and life vests on hand, you only need to get there and be dressed warmly in layers to paddle a canoe on this cold spring day, and wear shoes or sandels that can get wet from paddle splash. You might consider bringing extra clothes in a plastic bag in the (hopefully unlikely) event of an upset. Beginners and experienced canoers welcome. No swim test is offered because the water is too cold. I can tranport two canoes; if you have a car that can carry a canoe. let me know and I can expand the signup.
