Description

The Ice Age Trail is a National Scenic Trail that traces the extent of glaciers in the last ice age. It is a gift of the citizens of Wisconsin to the National Park Service, and about 700 of the eventual 1100-1200 miles are already built. Each year more trail is built and some existing trail is upgraded. Chances are, if you have hiked in Wisconsin, or skied in the backcountry, you have used segments of the Ice Age Trail.

The Hoofer Outing Club has helped to build trail for around ten years, and we will begin participating again for 2014 in late April. In this presentation, I will describe how current members can contibute to the trail, and hopefully other club members who have previously built trail will tell you why they think you should give trailbuilding a try. It is fun, and cheap (trailbuilders get free food and camping when building trail), but most importantly, very rewarding. You will meet colorful, energetic, generous, kind people.

This presentation will begin shortly after the regular meeting ends in the lakefront lounge in the Memorial Union. New members and old are welcome to attend. Grab some food and beverage in the union, or bring your own. I'll have maps and literature form the Ice Age Trail Alliance, the group that organizes trail construction.
