Event Information

Description

We will paddle the Selway River, located in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness of Idaho, for 5 days by kayak. A wrinkle for this trip is that we will be self-supporting: carrying all the gear and food we need in our whitewater kayaks (yeah, big boats required, no playboats!).

A group of us Hoofers played the permit lottery run for this river. I was the lucky one to win a permit. This is one of the most restricted access rivers out west; only one group is allowed to launch per day.

There is no on-line sign-up for this trip. Available slots are already filled by those who entered the permit lottery as part of our pool plus a few Hoofer alumni. There also is a small set of trip alternates. If you are interested in this trip, I could add you as an alternate. I can fill you in on the trip details. Contact me if you'd like to be added to my alternates list or wish to learn more about this trip.

The paddler rating required is R4p. We'll be paddling this at relatively low water, but there are many class III and a few class IV rapids over the course of the 47 miles we'll be paddling.
