Event Information

Description

Kayak Pool Sessions are back!! This is your chance to learn how to kayak in the safe environment of a swimming pool. You can learn all the basics kayak strokes, how to capsize and learn how to roll in a kayak.

Payment: Sessions are $7 per session and you can pay either at the OPO (in person (cash or card) or over the phone (card) ) or at any Tuesday outing club meeting (cash only)!

Clothing: bring swimwear, nose plugs and goggles (handy when you are upside down). Also full toe protection is advisable as this is what you will wear when you going paddling on rivers/lakes, but not mandatory. If you have a rash vest or a wetsuit top these will be helpful to keep you warm as the pool water can be cold.

Logistics: We meet at the Memorial Union inside the OPO office. We will then organize which boats/gear we are taking and carry them out to the cars. Once we have all the gear and people packed we will drive down to the Natatorium pool. We then take the boats and gear into the Natatorium (but outside the pool). We all go get changed in the changing rooms (please shower before entering the pool) and then bring all the kayaks and gear into the pool and begin the session. After this point the group is split into groups i.e. “Lake Lesson” or “kayak rolling” or “swim test”. Some of the more experienced members will just practice their skills in the pool also.
