Signs of spring bike ride (PLAY WITH BABY SHEEEEP!!!) In Progress / Completed
Schedule: Sunday, Mar 14, 2010
(1:30 pm - 4:00 pm)
Instructors: Brint Schwerbel

This ride is devoted to finding signs of spring in Madison, WI, America's permier bike destination.  I hope this turns into a weekly phenomenon, but this week, we'll bike about 12 miles south to Oregon, pay $3.50 to visit A-Z farms and play and frollick with new born sheep.

I think this is a really cool opportunity to see baby sheep (I feel wierd writing this....) because the farm only lets visitor interact with the sheep on the 14th, 21st, and 28th of this month of March, and the hours are limited on those days.

We'll bike to Oregon after I'm done working at canoecopia, which will probably put us on the road around 1:30 pm.  Please show up to PSC on time and with a road bike.  If you need a bike, the club has some to lend, but you may end up riding a mountain bike, which can make it difficult to keep up.  On the way to the farm, though, we'll stay together or at least regroup is we get momentarily separated.

After romping around with the baby sheep, there are two options:

1) you can opt to find some buddies and embark on the journey back to Madison without me, and using your own directions (I can help you with directions!!).  You can take your time getting back this way. For this option, at least THREE (3) people need to bike back together; if there aren't three people interested in biking back together, I don't think this part of the trip flies :(... So let me know soon if you wanna do option 1.

OR

2) You can stay with me, but please realize, this isn't just a destination ride for me, I'm looking to keep a fairly good pace of at least 15 mph and put in some good efforts in on hills.  I'm planning on biking around 25 miles after arriving at the farm - I'll post a route later.  We're not going to have anyone getting lost, but please understand that I'm looking to ride quickly, so you should be in shape to keep up.  That said, we will have fun (we'll be on bikes, though, so you already knew that)! The people in this group have prioty on bike selection, but only road bikes can be used.  The HOC has 2 road bikes, and one person already indicated interest in the trip (so Francesco, you're covered). The first person that e-mails me indicating they want option 2 and need a road bike get the second club road bike - first come, first served.

After the farm and ride back, either group is encouraged to pursue uncharted mom&pop shop restaurants for some good ole fashion Bood (beer and food).  We'll probably be in the mood for lamb...

Departure: 1:30 pm or earlier

Leaving from:  PSC (Park St. Circle)

Things to bring:

your own road bike and helmet

Gloves/earwarmers/sunglasses/big socks/ jacket if it's cold

water

money for the farm and food after

charged cell phone, especially if you're chosing the 1st option above

your own directions, especially if you're chosing the 1st option above

camera!

Headlamp or illumination for the ride back (I have an extra head lamp)

Shoot me an e-mail if you're interested and let me know which option you like best.  I really hope option 1 flies because everyone should have the chance to see these little rascals -- Any volunteers fo leading this part of the trip?? That'd be GREAT!
