Event Information

Description

This is a practice session for canoe strokes at Memorial Union. It will not give you a rating. Content will depend on what you want to learn! Polish up your J-stroke, sweeps, draws, and prys, or learn about more advanced strokes like C-stroke, reverse-J, boxstroke, sculling, cross-strokes, axels, christies, etc. Knowledge of specialized strokes is particularly advantageous in white-water canoeing.

You do not need the swim test to take this lesson.  The swim test will not be offered in this lesson but the swim test is required in order to go on club paddling trips and to take boats out on your own on lake Mendota.  Watch the events calendar for swim tests being offered.

We won't practice rescues but it is hard to keep your feet dry in a canoe so wear some kind of footwear that stays on and can get wet.  Wear clothing that is comfortable and can get wet in case of splashing.

Memorial Union has 25 cent lockers to stash your valuables into during the practice.

Meet near the square pier in front of the boathouse door.  Let me know if you need directions.

Remove yourself from the signup list if you are unable to attend so that others can sign up in your place.
