Event Information

Description

This event requires that you have completed a lake lesson and a standard swim test. After the lake lesson, this is an introduction to paddling kayaks on moving water. This is beginner-friendly, and we will teach the basics of moving water maneuvers: eddy turns, peel-outs, and ferries.

We are going to the Baraboo River:  https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/2887/#main

It is just under 1 hour drive north.  Will meet at Park St Circle to load kayaks at 9:30 AM Saturday September 22nd.

We will probably get dinner on the way home!

Remember to bring:

  • swim suit,
  • non-cotton synthetic shirt,
  • footwear,
  • wool or synthetic thermal layers (if air temperature is cool - 70s - 60s °F)
  • water bottle,
  • sunglasses with a strap,
  • strap for prescription glasses,
  • nose plugs,
  • pack a lunch
  • large towel or large beach towel
  • dry clothes to change into afterwards.

You will need from Hoofers the six essentials:

  • Boat
  • Paddle
  • PFD
  • Sprayskirt
  • Helmet
  • Floatation

If the air temperature is cool (70s - 60s °F), would recommend bringing along wool or synthetic layers to wear under a paddling jacket and wet suit.  The club has paddling jackets & a few wet suits available in the canoe/kayak equipment cage.

Trip costs will be gas costs, toll fees & dinner costs.  To be determined.  Will update soon.
