This event requires that you have completed a lake lesson and a standard swim test. After the lake lesson, this is an introduction to paddling canoes or kayaks on moving water. This is beginner-friendly, and we will teach the basics of moving water maneuvers: eddy turns, peel-outs, and ferries.
Location depends on water levels.
If Turtle Creek (https://www.milespaddled.com/2013/07/turtle-creek-i/) is flooding,(At the request of possible participants, we will likely do Badfish because it is closer). We will do Badfish Creek from Old Stage to Cooksville (https://www.milespaddled.com/2014/03/badfish-creek-iii/), which doesn't seem to be flooding at the moment.
Please meet at the Hoofer boathouse in Memorial Union at 2:00pm to gather gear. The streets surrounding the Union will be closed for the Ironman Triathalon on Sunday from about 11am until midnight: https://www.cityofmadison.com/trafficEngineering/documents/IronmanTrafficRoutes.pdf
I will get all the gear from the Union on Saturday afternoon. I will email eveyone to coordinate plans for driving.
