Event Information

Description

This canoe lesson, distinct from the kayak lake lesson, teaches you how to work as a team to make a tandem canoe go where you want to go and gives you the canoe lake rating needed to go on Outing Club Quietwater canoe trips or to paddle on Lake Mendota.  We will also learn about the club boats, Lake Mendota guidelines and how to check out gear.  You will also need the swim test to take out boats.  The swim test is not offered in this lesson but you can get the swimtest when the lifeguards are at the swim pier.  Get the paperwork at Outdoor rentals and take out to the life guard and once you pass the test bring back to Outdoor Rental and they will enter you into the system as passing the test.  Bring your swimsuit if you plan to take the swimtest before the canoe lesson.  The lifeguards on duty from 11 am till sunset.  There are lockers at the union for 25 cents to stash your belongs while on the water.  We normally don't capsize or practice rescues, but it is hard to keep your feet dry in a canoe, so wear some kind of foot wear that stays on and can get wet.

Meet us at the entrance to the boathouse, you will see boats in the background throught the open door and it is a not far down from the Outdoor Rental office.
