Event Information

Description

This canoe lake lesson, distict from the kayak lake lesson, teaches you how to work as a team to make a tandem canoe go where you want it to go and gives you the canoe lake rating you need to take boats out on Lake Mendota or go on Hoofer Outing Club Quietwater trips.  You will also need the swim test to take boats out and to go on club trips.  The swim test is not required to take this lesson and is not included in this lesson but you can take it anytime with the lifeguards out at the swimming pier.  They start at 11 am and go to sunset in green flag conditions.  Stop at Outdoor Rentals to get the paper you will need for the lifeguard to fill out and once you have passed the test bring the paper back to Outdoor Rentals and they will put you into the system.

We normally don't capsize or practice rescues but wear shoes that stay on and can get wet and clothes that can get wet just in case of splashing.

There are lockers  for 25 cents near Outdoor Rental to stash your belongings during the lesson.

Meet Karen and I at the entrance to the boathouse.  It is on the lakefront a few doors west of the Outdoor Rental Office.  You will see boats through the open door.  If you are unable to attend remove your name so others can sign up.

Thank you and see you by the water
