Event Information

Description

Karen and I will be doing a combo canoe lesson and practice session.  Sign up for this lesson to earn your canoe lake rating in canoe.  This is the first step you need to take canoes out on Lake Mendota and to go on Hoofers Outing Club Quiet Water Canoe Trips.  You will also need the swim test.  A swim test is not offered in this lesson but you can get your swim test completed by going to Outdoor Rentals and getting the paperwork needed to take out to the swim pier to the lifeguards.  Once you have passed the test bring the completed paperwork back to Outdoor Rentals and they will enter you into the system.

In this lesson we will start out by learning the canoe strokes and how to work together as a team to make the canoe go where you want it to go.  After some practice on the water we will take a tour of the boathouse and locate the flags, flag chart, steam whistle, equipment check out clipboard plus more.

We normally don't capsize or practice rescues in this lesson but wear clothes that can get wet and wear shoes that stay on and can get wet in case of splashing.  The union has lockers for 25 cents to store your belongings during the lesson.  Meet Karen and I promptly at 6:30 pm at the entrance to the boathouse.  You will see canoes and kayaks from the open door.  If you are unable to make the lesson.  Remove yourself from the list so someone else can sign up in your place.  See you at the boathouse!!!
