Event Information

Description

Weather permitting we will be doing a canoe lesson in conjunction with also offering a practice session for people who have more questions about canoeing and would like more practice with strokes.  We will start this lesson with learning/review of the canoe strokes and then get on the water for about an hour.  On this posting sign up if you need a canoe lesson.  There will be a separate posting for people who already have their canoe lake lesson and would like more practice.

This canoe lesson along with the swim test is what you need to take boats out on Lake Mendota and to go on quiet water trips with Hoofers outing club.  A swim test will not be a part of this lesson but you can get the paper work you need from Outdoor rentals to take to the life guards.  Once you passed the swimtest the life guard will sign the paper and you return it to Outdoor rentals so they can register you into the system.

After learning about basic canoe anatomy and practice on the water we will have the rest of the lesson on land and go over Mendota safety, flags, the flag chart, and more.

We don't plan to capsize or practice rescues in this lesson but wear shoes that stay on and clothes that can get wet in case of splashing.

Meet at the boathouse garage door.  If you are unable to make the lesson, remove yourself from the list so someone else can sign up.
