Event Information

Description

Due to the poor weather outlook for today we are rescheduling today's canoe lesson for Wednesday at 7:15 pm.  Meet Karen and I promptly at 07:15 at the entrance to the boat house.  This canoe lesson, distinct from the kayak lake lesson, teaches you how to work as a team to make a tandem canoe go where you want it to go. We will also learn about Hoofers boating, safety on lake Mendota, the steam whistle, the flag system and more. This along with the swim test is the rating you need to take canoes out on lake Mendota and to go on Hoofers Outing club quiet water trips.  The swim test will not be a part of this lesson but you can go to the Outdoor Rental Office during business hours and get the paper you need to take to the life guards at the end of the swim pier.  Once you pass the swim test and the form is signed by the lifeguard bring the paper back to the Outdoor Rental office for them to put your rating into the system.  The life guard is present 11 am to sunset under good weather conditions.

We normally don't capsize or practice rescues in this lesson but just in case you get wet,  wear shoes that stay on and can get wet along with clothes that can get wet in case of splashing.

There are lockers for 25 cents at the union that you can use to stash your belongings into during the lesson.

If you can't make the lesson remove your name from the list so someone else can sign up or the next person will move up from the waitlist.

See you at the boathouse
