Karen and I are leading a canoe lake lesson. This lesson is the lesson you need to get your canoe lake rating to take canoes out on lake Mendota and on quiet water trips with the club. A swim test is also needed to take out boats but a swim test will not be offered in this lesson. You can get the swim test from the life guards at your convience at the swimming pier at the union. Check with Outdoor Rentals to get the paperwork you need for the lifeguards to fill out. Once you passed return it to the Outdoor Rental Office and they will enter you into the system.
This canoe lesson, is a separate lesson from the kayak lake lesson. We will go over the rules of Lake Mendota, checking out geer, anatomy of a boat and paddle, canoe strokes, and how to work together as a team in a tandem canoe plud more.
Report to the boathouse promplty at 7:15 pm so we can get on the water and have enough time for the water portion of the lesson before dark. Meet Karen and I in front of the big garage door near the Outing Office, you will see kayak and canoe boats in the background. Their are lockers close by for you to stash your person belongings in case they get wet. The lockers cost 25 cents to rent. We do not plan to practice rescues or capsize in this lesson but wear clothes that can wet just in case of splashing and also wear water shoes that stay on and can get wet.
See you soon, Joyce and Karen
