Description

Access:

You MUST have access to the UW Natatorium to attend. 

Students can pay a summer rate or possibly a one-time fee. 

For UW Affiliates (Wisconsin Alumni Association Members, Faculty/Staff or their spouses, etc: https://recsports.wisc.edu/member-services/affiliate-membership/), you can pay a one-time ($7), or a weekly, monthly, etc. rate to enter. If you are not a UW Affiliate as defined above, you cannot get access to this facility. 

 

Schedule: 

Please be on the pool deck of the Natatorium ready to swim at 8:30AM sharp (or email me if you want to show up slightly later). 

 

Swim Test: 

From the Water Safety Code Section 1.3.1: 

The standard swim test (or equivalent qualifications) is required for the following types of paddling trips:
1) Whitewater paddling in all types of boats (R1and above)
2) Intermediate and advanced sea kayaking (SK2 and SK3)
3) All expeditionary canoeing trips (remote, extended trips that include large lake crossings).
4) Whitewater rafting in Grade II and higher rapids.

Standard Swim Test Requirements: In a swimming pool or lake, swim 100 yards and continue to remain afloat for a total of five (5) minutes by treading water.

 

Provisional Swim Test: 

If you cannot pass the Standard Swim Test, there is a Provisional Swim Test available to allow you to attend some quietwater and beginner-friendly canoe and sea kayak trips. Provisional Swim Test Requirements: swim 50 yards in 4 minutes or less wearing a properly fitted personal floatation device (PFD).
