WHITEWATER CANOE CLINIC (Solo and Tandem)

Friday, Jun 1, 2018 - 4:00 pm through Sunday, Jun 3, 2018 - 7:00 pm

Complete
Leader: Gregg Riemer

Event Information

Description

This clinic will be held on the Wolf River near Langlade, WI. To register for the clinic itself, you will need to contact Rich Krieg (solo clinic) or Phillip Johnsrud (tandem clinic) as listed above. The Sierra Club's whitewater kayak clinic held the same weekend is already full, so I suggest register ASAP for the whitewater canoe clinic.

I can transport 6 people and 3 canoes in my vehicle. We'll load canoes and equipment on Thursday May 31st at 6pm.

It's a 3.5 hour drive to get to Langlade, so we'll leave Madison at 4pm on Friday, June 1st at 4pm. We'll return to Madison on Sunday evening.

Food: We'll stop for a fish fry on the way north on Friday. We'll have a group breakfast in the campsite on Saturday and Sunday mornings. You'll need to bring your own lunches for Saturday and Sunday on the river. Saturday evening is a potluck, so bring a dish to pass. Bring money for a supper stop on the way home on Sunday.

Gear: We can use Hoofer gear such as canoes, paddles, PFD's, helmets, and tents. You'll need to bring a sleeping bag and pad, warm when wet clothes (a wetsuit or drysuit is recommended), and other clothing for camp.

Cost: $40 payable to Sierra Club (as shown in the announcement above). I would estimate transportation, camping, and breakfast costs will be an additional approximately $25/person (depending on how many people we get).

There is a chance this clinic may fill, so I would recommend registering with Rich Krieg (solo clinic) or Phil Johnsrud (tandem clinic) as shown in the announcement below.

If you are interested in using Hoofer gear or transportation or group breakfast, please sign up on the Hoofer calendar by Tuesday, May 29th, so I know how much group food to purchase.

You will need an R-1 rating in an open canoe to go on this trip.

For questions, contact Gregg Riemer at gregg.riemer@gmail.com or 608-216-5803.

Note: I will be in northern Wisconsin paddling from May 18-28. I will have very limited access to email and phone during this time.
