We’re heading to Zion National Park!

Once you fill this out, we will add you to the waitlist. After you are on the waitlist and are approved for the trip, you will be able to pay your deposit to one of the leaders and we will add you as a participant.


 

What: Backpacking

Where: Zion National Park, Utah

When: Friday March 23, 2018 (no later than noon) - Sunday April 1, 2018

Cost: $400

 

Itinerary:

Friday, 3/23: Leave Memorial Union and drive to/camp at Sterling, CO.

Saturday, 2/24: Sterling, CO to Zion National Park

Sunday, 3/25: Lee Pass-Hop Valley Campsite A: 9 miles

Monday, 3/26: Hop Valley Campsite A-Wildcat Canyon Spring: 12.6 miles

Tuesday, 3/27: Wildcat Canyon Spring-West Rim Campsite 2: 11.5 miles

Wednesday, 3/28: West Rim Campsite 2-East Rim Camp Area: 11 miles

Thursday, 3/29: East Rim Camp Area-East Rim Entrance!!!: 6-7 miles

Friday, 3/30: Angels Landing Day Hike, then leave Zion! Spend the night in Denver!

Saturday and Sunday: Drive back to Madison!

 

Total mileage:

50 miles of the Zion Traverse, 4.4 miles for Angels Landing

There are some days with elevation gain of more than 2,700 feet, and a loss of 2,400 feet.

 

Necessary equipment:

  • Backpack* (50+ liters)

  • Sleeping bag* (20°F minimum)

  • Sleeping pad*

  • Hiking boots

  • Rain gear

*Can be borrowed from Hoofers or rented from OUW

 

We have space for 4 participants on this trip.

 

Signing Up:

This is a BP4 level trip; you will need at least a BP2+ or a BP3 rating to be able to come.

Priority sign-up will be given to participants who have personal vehicles or are fleet-certified, and then to those who are able to pay the trip deposit in full. If you want to get certified, here is a link you should check out:
