Description

*Please respect your commitment and show up to the lesson if you are signed up. There are other people one the waitlist who would love to attend the lesson. If you are signed up and can no longer make it - please contact me ASAP.

On Tuesday, I will lead a kayak lake lesson and SK0 lesson. I will also perform swim tests for the participants if needed.

Please meet at the boathouse at promptly 4:15pm dressed in appropriate paddling or swim wear that can get wet such as synthetic or wool or other clothing that can get wet (no cotton) and appropriate closed-toe shoes that can get wet (no bare feet and no flip flops) to protect your feet from sharp objects in the lake bed. We will be wearing wet suits, so a tighter-fitting shirt and shorts (or swimsuit bottoms) tent to work best underneath. Also, bring sunscreen, a towel, and dry/warm change of clothes for afterwards.

I am only able to accommodate 3 participants on this lesson. Please note that the lesson is weather pending - if there is wind/waves and the flag is not green, we will likely not go out.

In this lesson, we will learn the following.

(a) Boathouse and Lake Procedures and Rules

(b) Construction/Operation of Sea Kayaks

(c) How to efficiently hold the paddle and basic/intermediate paddling strokes to move the boat forwards, backwards, sideways (draw strokes), turning (sweep strokes), how use your hips/thighs to edge the boat to move the boat more efficiently (edging), and how to use your paddle to prevent capsize (bracing).

(d) How to exit the boat safely in the event of capsize (wet exit - you will get wet).

(e) How to upright your boat with assistance from a fellow paddler (the bow rescue - also called the Eskimo rescue).

(e) How to re-enter and empty water out of your boat with assistance from a fellow paddler (The T-rescue)

Successfully completing this lesson will earn the following ratings.

1. Kayak Lake Rating

2. SK0 Rating for Sea Kayak
