Event Information

Description

Weather permitting, this canoe lesson, distinct from our kayak lesson, teaches you how to work as a team to make a tandem canoe go where you want to go, and gives you the canoe lake rating needed to go on outing club quietwater canoe trips or to paddle on Lake Mendota. We normally don't purposely capsize to practice rescues, but it's hard to keep your feet dry in a canoe, so wear footwear that can get wet such as Tevas/sport sandals or sneakers. Stash stuff that needs to stay dry in one of the 25c lockers in the MU. The Swim test is not required to take this lesson, but is required to take boats out afterwards, so you are encouraged to take the swim test when it is offered. Be prompt, and please don't remove your name at the last minute when it is too late for others to take your place. Meet at the Memorial Union waterfront by the Outdoor UW office and the canoes. Already rated canoers who want to get a little more seat time in our canoes or experienced canoers who want to work on teaching canoe lessons are VERY welcome to come along (and simultaneously take the lesson if you need the canoe rating).
