Event Information

Description
Join us for an afternoon at Prairie Du Sac on the Wisconsin River! This is an excellent place to learn the basics of whitewater paddling. This trip can qualify you to receive your R1 rating in kayak (or canoe) that allows you to undertake more interesting swift-water river trips. Sac has a short section of fast swirly water that washes out into the slow Wisconsin river, so it is a safe place to learn how to handle a boat in current.
To participate, you must have your kayak lake rating, (or canoe lake rating if you are taking a canoe) and have passed the swim test.
Meet at Park St. Circle/Memorial Union Boathouse at 1:30PM to select Club gear (boat, paddle, spray skirt, helmet, PFD, air bladders, paddle jacket). If you can come a bit  earlier to sort out your gear, that would be helpful. We will leave the Union at about 2 PM (as long as storms are not imminent). You will  need to bring a swimsuit, towel, change of dry clothes, river booties or shoes without laces, $6 to pay your driver for gas (if riding as a passenger), and extra money for possible dinner at Culvers afterward. We'll aim to be back in Madison by 7:10PM. Drivers with racks who can carry boats should email me so i can expand the signup.
