Event Information

Description
Susan and I will lead the following trip on Sunday August 2nd.
SK1 is required for this trip.

I paddled a fun route last weekend that starts in Klode park in Milwaukee, paddle south to the North Point Restaurant (its a old school ice cream and burger shop with a nice beach landing next to it), then paddle north back to Klode park. Its a little more scenic than the Milwaukee harbor and the water is much clearer. You can actually see the bottom. At the end, Klode park is so nice that swimming, maybe even some boat play/rescues could be a possibility with wet suites of course. Or continuing to paddle north is an option. There are some nice bluffs too.

Kayaking on lake Michigan is a little more pleasant than paddling on a smaller inland lakes because its like kayaking on a giant air conditioner.

Depending on conditions as well, this could be a great opportunity to getting a step closer to one's SK2 rating.

This is the general timing outline.
Meet at Hoofers at 9am on Sunday August 2nd

Load boats at the union takes 15 to 30 minutes.
Driving to klode park from the union is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The launch requires a small walk so that's 20 minutes.
One way is 5 miles, assuming 3.5mph that's about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Eat lunch and get ice cream at north point on the beach is about 1 hour. Free free to bring a bag lunch if you want.
Paddle back is another 5 miles, an hour and 15 minutes.
If we got out right away, 30 minutes to load boats.
The 1 hour and 30 minutes back to Madison.

So if we leave at 9am, we start paddling at 11am, get to north point at about 12:15, return to klode park at about 2:30, then as a group we could decide to keep paddling north, play at the beach or head home early to be back the union. The schedule is flexible, but we'll probably return to Madison around dinner time.

Cost: about $10 to $15 in gas.

The trip is limited to 4 people because we only have two cars that each can carry two boats as of now. If you have a car or a trailer that can carry boats, we can expand the group to more people!

At max, the group
size could be 8 people.
