Description
Hello all!
There seemed to be some interest in backpacking, so I have decided to host a backpacking clinic to discuss some basic principles.

This clinic will include things like:
Sleeping bags/pads: what does a quality bag look like? what is the difference between down and synthetic? what does an R-value mean? how light should a bag be?
Camp Stoves: what are my options and how do I start them?
Clothing/footwear: polyester/nylon vs. Cotton, whats the difference? should I purchase waterproof boots? what kind of rain gear should I buy? how much clothing should I pack for x amount of days?
Backpacks: what should I look for in a backpack? how do i measure myself correctly for a backpack? what is the difference between an internal and an external frame pack?
Food: How do I store food at night? what kind of food can I make in the backcountry? what are some good recipes to make?
Water: How do I get water in certain environments? what is the difference between a gravity filter and pump filter? what are some other methods for obtaining potable water in the backcountry?

On top of this wonderful discussion and practice with gear, I would love to give a tour of all of our backpacking gear and discuss my purchasing plans for the rest of the backpacking budget for the end of this fiscal year.

Get excited and let's go backpacking!!!
Also lets plan on meeting in the Mendota Lodge!
