Kayak Lake Lesson

Want to get in on some sweet kayaking with the club? This is the place to start!

This is the first kayak lesson that you must take in the Outing Club to use any of the club kayaks (even if you have previous kayaking experience).  The lesson has two parts.  The first is a "Ground School" portion where we will go over Outing Club rules, policies, procedures, and some terminology.  The second part of the lesson is on the water where we will cover basic strokes, a rescue, and exiting your boat upside down in the water. 

You will end up completely under water during this lesson, so dress accordingly.  Wear shoes that you don't mind getting wet.  Don't wear flip flops or loose fitting sandals because they will fall off in the water and you'll probably lose them.  Old sneakers work OK, though water shoes are the best.  If you need to wear glasses or are going to be wearing sunglasses be sure to have a means to secure them so you won't lose them in the water.

We will meet at the Memorial Union Boathouse for the lesson. Bring a towel and dry clothes to change into after the lesson.
