Event Information

Description
This Saturday i offer a chance to develop or renew skills in river reading and boat control in current on the nearby Baraboo river. Meet at 10:10AM at Park St circle (N end of Park St by the Union), return to Madison about 5:30PM. We would put in at Hatchery Rd upstream of Rt 12, boat 2 km of scenic quietwater thru rolling farmland, then hit class 1 easy whitewater with fast current, eddies and rock gardens thru the historic downtown of Baraboo, culminating at the surfing wave by Circus World just before the takeout. You need to have passed the swim test and have a lake rating on the boat of choice; kayakers should have some previous river reading experience since the river will be low. Everyone should wear a helmet and should have footgear that will stay on if you need to get out and push the boat off a shallow spot; kayakers will need a wet suit or dry suit. The club has wet suits and dry tops you can use. This trip is parallel with a Sierra Club River Touring Section trip, so there may be other river enthusiasts joining us on the river. Additional drivers are needed, which would allow expansion of the signup.
