Event Information

Description
If you've completed your kayak or canoe lake lesson and are interested in running rapids, this is the place to start!  We will practice basic moving water skills at the outflow of the Prairie du Sac dam, which is about a 45min drive northwest of Madison.  The rapids may seem intimidating at times, but it is a very safe place that ends in a calm pool and great for building skills quickly.  This is also a chance to earn your R1 rating in a canoe or kayak, which will give you access to beginner river trips in gorgeous Northeastern Wisconsin!  For returning paddlers, the waves offer a great place to perfect your ferries, combat rolls, or work on playboating tricks.  You should make sure to bring $5 for gas, water shoes with a heel strap, noseplugs (if you own a pair), swimsuit, a change of clothes, and a water bottle. You will need your kayak lake rating and swim test to participate.  We will often stop at the local Culver's for food afterwards, so extra money doesn't hurt as well.  If there are more drivers who can haul kayaks or safety boaters (R3p rating and above) available more spots will open up.
