Event Information

Description
Get read, the Door County Sea Kayak Symposium is on July 10-12, 2015 this year! This clinic is sponsored by Rutabaga and hosted at Rowley's Bay Resort in Door County. Besides touring the beautiful Door County peninsula, this is a chance for Hoofers to get quality mentorship/training outside of the club and to bring their skills back to the club. You can certainly attend the symposium with only your kayak lake lesson - just shoot me an email and I can't figure out how to change the requirement settings on this.

Here are the details:
When: July 10-12, 2015.
Where: On Lake Michigan at Rowley Bay Resort in Door County, WI. ~ 4.5-5hrs drive.
Rating Required: SK1 and up
Why's it so great:
This clinic offers dozens of courses organized by skill level. It is run by ACA certified instructors and covers every aspect of sea kayaking. You choose your own class schedule based on skill level. There are land and water-based instructional courses as well as guided expeditions around Lake Michigan. Some examples of instructional classes are Greenland paddling, Navigation, and Surf & Waves. Guided trips are both full and half-day. You have the choice of skill-builder trips where rescue scenarios are mixed with the expedition, or you can strictly do touring.  Skill level descriptions are on the site and instructors will be double checking your abilities.  So, choose what you think is the most appropriate level.

Cost: Ok the biggest detail. You are responsible for clinic costs, lodging, and food (some meals provided by clinic).
You should sign up here and on the Clinic Website!  And you will need to register through the clinic’s website and pay registration fees (more info below) Clinics are more expensive than the average Hoofer trip.  But when you look at the variety of guided expeditions and instructional opportunities the value goes a long way.  If you need sea kayak equipment, club member participants can use Hoofer equipment (a savings of up to $125 for the full weekend!). And we can coordinate rides among available drivers This saves the expense of having to rent boats/paddles/skirts.
**Hoofer Outing Club scholarships may be available pending Exec Board approval.**

Symposium registration costs through April 30, 2015:
3 day: $340/person
2 day: $310/person
1 day: $240/person

Registration costs starting May 1, 2015:

3 day: $370/person
2 day: $340/person
1 day: $260/person

Scheduling: You  have the choice to attend 1, 2, or all 3 days. Cost varies upon how many days you sign up for. You pick your schedule of events!

Lodging: There are rooms available at Rowley's Bay Resort. You can also camp at Wagontrail Campgound and have the choice of tent or a yert.  Links are below. If enough people sign up and want to share lodging, the costs may decrease substantially.
