Event Information

Description
Saturday is supposed to get above freezing with some sun, so it will be a rare winter opportunity to do some outdoor paddling at a safe but unusual location. Lake Columbia, by Poynette, 30km N of Madison, is heated to 75F by waste heat from a billion-watt coal-fired power plant on its N shore, so it is a safe place to paddle in the cold season. Canoers will need a canoe lake rating, some quietwater canoeing experience, and passed the swim test, and also need to wear warm when damp clothes and water-resistant jacket to keep you warm in the cold fog and wind. It would be good to have extra clothes to change into, which we can put into dry bags.  Kayakers need a SK0 or R2,and will need to wear a wet suit and paddle jacket to protect against the wind and cold fog and warm wave splash. The club has canoes, kayaks, paddles, wet suits and paddle jackets.. Meet 12:45PM Sat across from the Outdoor UW office on the Memorial Union lake shore.
