Mark your calendars! The ice will soon be thawing so its time to start thinking about the beginning of the whitewater season. This year the annual Memorial Day whitewater trip will be happening May 22nd-May 25th up at Hooferland. Sign up for the event will open Tuesday April 14th right after the general meeting in Mendota Lodge!
If you're a beginner interested in whitewater paddling this is the place to start! However, if you want to go, sign up for a pool session NOW! You need to complete your kayak lake lesson and swim test at one of the three remaining pool sessions (March 8th, March 22nd, or April 12th). You will then need to go on an introductory class one river trip (R1 trip) in May, so set aside some time on a few weeknights or weekends between May 2nd and the 21st. Finally, plan to buy some water shoes and noseplugs in the coming months. May I suggest Canoecopia coming up March 13th-15th! If you are a leader, safety boater, or can drive also let me know if you're planning to attend so I can reserve you a spot and know how many people can go when the time comes! For drivers I need to know, how many people and how many boats you can take on your car.
