Event Information

Description
It won't be that long until the snow and ice melt away and our local lakes and rivers open up for paddling. In anticipation of our boating season I'll be presenting an overview of whitewater paddling with Hoofers. I'll cover what you need to get started---and keep going---as a paddler with Hoofers. I'll have slides of the types of trips we take and talk about what the club offers to interested members (gear, instruction and leadership).

You'll learn that the best time to start paddling with the club is now---in the warmth and comfort of the Natatorium pool at one of our pool sessions (see the club calendar for scheduling and sign-up). Here you can take the basic lesson you need to get going and then you can start working on key skills like bracing, rolling and basic strokes.

This also will be a great time to answer questions about clothing and gear you may wish to acquire on your own given the fact that the world's largest paddlesport expo, Canoecopia, is coming up here in Madison, March 13-15 at the Alliant Energy Center. That's a great time to buy certain items that the club does not provide, like paddling shoes.

So if you're at all interested in or curious about whitewater paddling with Hoofers, come to the regular HOC meeting at 7 pm on Feb 24. We will do a shortened version of the usual agenda items and then start this presentation and discussion at maybe 7:15 or so.

No need to sign up---just show up if interested.
