As promised, here is the first backpacking trip of the school year! We will be going up to Newport State Park in Ellison Bay (on the "thumb" of Wisconsin) where there are about 30 miles of backcountry trail right on the shores of Lake Michigan. Here is a link to the DNR website:

Hopefully we will arrive early Friday evening and be able to hike in 1-2 miles before setting up camp, and spending the entire day Saturday hiking and relaxing, with a late morning departure time on Sunday. Total trip mileage shouldn't be over 15-20 miles.
Beginners welcome! If you are interested in the trip but have never backpacked before; I encourage you to sign up/or contact me. This should be a relaxed and fun weekend perfect for an introduction to backpacking and backcountry camping. Remember though, you need to require your own sleeping bag.
More information and planning will be distributed closer to the trip date when we know how many people are coming, what gear we need, etc.
There will be a trip cost - cost will cover food, gas, and state park permit fees. I am guessing it will be approximately $30 - $40. An exact cost will be figured out before the trip leaves.
We will be taking 1 8-passenger fleet van, as well as any personal cars people feel comfortable taking up.
