Event Information

Description
Hi,

I’m hoping to lead a bicycle trip to the Stewart Railway Tunnel, near Belleville, this Sunday 21 September. We will leave at 9am from the Memorial Union and should return by around 2pm in the afternoon. The route is just under 50 miles round trip and is mostly on paved and gravel trails completely separated from vehicular traffic, and is almost entirely flat.

The route is the Badger State Trail, through good countryside and woods. We will turn around at the Stewart Tunnel (dug in the 1880s), which is around 800 yards long and unlit. Please bring bike lights so you can safely cycle through it. A good torch will also be a great idea, as the rock inside the tunnel is pretty cool. Bring a snack which we can have at the Tunnel, and then we will head back to Madison.

Details: Make sure to bring a helmet, snacks, plenty of water, bike lights, and a state trail pass that you can pick up along the way ($4/day or $20 for a yearly pass).

Rich.
