Event Information

Description
SK1 Lesson! This is the next step for sea kayakers in the club with an SK0 rating. While an SK0 rating limits your paddling to the area of Lake Mendota in the immediate vicinity of the mooring area (unless you are on a trip with a club leader), the SK1 rating will open up all areas of the lake within the "yellow line." Two paddlers with SK1 ratings can venture anywhere on the lake together provided the weather is favorable! To take this lesson you must have previously completed the kayak lake lesson, swim test, and SK0 lesson.

We will cover some new strokes such as draw strokes (for going sideways) and bracing strokes (for staying upright!) as well as other cool techniques like edging your boat to make turning more efficient. We will get on the water as soon as everyone arrives and should be done in about 2.5 hours.

Wear clothes to paddle in and get wet in. (warm when wet clothes are good). We will practice a solo rescue so everyone will be doing a wet exit at some point during the lesson.
