Event Information

Description
The SK0 sea kayak lesson is your introduction to sea kayaking with the club and is required to use our sea kayaks. To take this lesson you must have completed the kayak lake lesson and passed the swim test. Once completed, you can use the club's sea kayaks on Lake Mendota and go on many quietwater sea kayak trips.

In this lesson you will learn about the club's sea kayaks, work on forward and sweep strokes, learn the T-rescue (an assisted rescue to get you back in your kayak if you've wet exited), and learn about safety concerns for sea kayaking.

Swim suit, clothing appropriate for the temperature (you will have to wet exit and get wet), sunscreen, and suitable shoes are mandatory. Because the weather is getting colder, make sure to dress in layers (fleece and neoprene are good), as the club only has a limited number of wet suites available for use on a first come, first served basis. Also, don't forget to pack a towel and a change of dry clothes!
