Event Information

Description
If you are a kayaker and would like to stay upright more often, this is the class for you! You will learn how to prevent capsizing using bracing, as well as the beginnings of the Eskimo roll. Since learning how to roll is often challenging, don't expect to master the skills in one lesson. So come on out for DOI and practice with some experienced Outing Club paddlers.

Further recommendations and home work
1. bring extra changes of clothes, a towel, and fleece layers to wear in the water  and make sure not to wear cotton garments.
2. Nose plugs/diving googles helps a lot in learning to roll by making you're upside down underwater experience a lot more comfortable. Kayaking specific noseplugs are available at Rutabaga and diving goggles are available at any sports outlet.

Homework:
Here are some videos to watch by two top instructors:
Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-riOC8poAs. It features Ken Whiting, a Canadian kayak champion. This 11 minute video starts with a little blurb about a paddle Ken likes but moves to rolling quickly. Other videos by Ken on Paddling TV are very good.

The other series I can recommend is one done by Chris Spelius, here's one, but there are others if you search you-tube.
