Event Information
- Description
- A group of 16 Hoofers, HOC alumni and friends just returned from a 5-day self-support whitewater kayaking trip down the Selway River, which cuts 47 miles through the mountains and forests of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area of north central Idaho. It is a spectacularly beautiful, pristine area. The whitewater is spectacular, too---numerous Class II to IV rapids that sometimes never seemed to stop. This was a special trip, deserving a special trip report. We'll have slides, video and stories from our trip after a short regular HOC meeting on Tuesday, August 12. We packed a lot into 5-days traveling self-contained (think backpacking out of the stern of kayaks). No need for sign-up. Just show up if you want to meet Jake the Snake (a big timber rattlesnake who shared our campsite one night) and see what western wildnerness whitewater is all about: crystal clear water, magnificent canyons, crazy river characters, never-ending rapids, massive boulder gardens, huckleberries, overloaded duckies in big drops, freshly caught cut-throat trout, white sand beaches, and so much more.
