Event Information

Description

We're going up to Door County for three days of outdoor fun! We'll drive up Friday evening and camp at Newport State Park on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. Saturday and Sunday will be spent either biking, hiking or paddling. Monday we'll stop at Whitefish Dunes State Park for more paddling and/or hiking.

Some highlights of the trip:

  • Paddle Peninsula State Park or up along the shore of Lake Michigan towards Washington Island (weather permitting). An SK-1 rating is required for all paddlers on this trip.

  • Bike and take the ferry to Washington Island and cycle the island. Very few cars and some great island cycling.

  • Hike (or bike) Peninsula State Park, one of Wisconsin's most popular state parks with great Lake Michigan views and bluffs.

  • We'll also stop by Whitefish Dunes State Park on the way home for more hiking and sea kayaking (SK-1 required for paddlers).

  • Camping in Newport State Park. There is a beach where we have morning coffee. It is close to Door County's lakeside towns and has tons of hiking going through the campsite.

  • Spend time around the campfire, on the beach, and it’s all with great people.

  • Good-ish food.

We will leave Friday August 29th at 4pm and return Monday September 1st at 7pm or later.

The cost will be $80. An $50 deposit is required to hold your spot.

If you sign up, please indicate whether you are able to drive, and if so, how many boats or bikes or people you can take (be specific!). Also, if you are able and willing to tow the club trailer, please let me know, you get a free dinner on the way up. The more drivers we have, the more people can come.

For everyone: state any food allergies and if you are a carnivore, vegetarian, or vegan. Also, state whether you will be biking, hiking or paddling so we can organize transportation. You can split paddling days (paddle one day, hike another).

You must:

Bring money for Friday dinner and Monday's dinner (all other food provided). If you are biking, you will need money for the ferry ($17.50 for a person and a bike);
Bring your own bike;
Bring your own tent. If you don't have one, email me and we can hook you up with some tent space;
Bring your own sleeping bag or blanket. the club has sleeping pads if you need one;
Bring your own utensils and coffee mug.

Hope to see you all there!
