Sea Kayaking on Isle Royale

How about something Hoofers have never done?  Like sea kayak Isle Royale!

I plan on leading an advanced trip to Isle Royale this summer from August 2^nd through August 10^th.

This is a wonderful trip for those whose skills are ready.  This is typically called an SK3 trip, but since I’ve been up there a few times, I believe I can make it an SK2 level trip.  But this does mean you need to be an SK2 without exception.  To go, you should have been paddling with the club at least a couple years, or have similar experience from another advanced club or association.  Being the case, you’ve probably already paddled with me someplace like the Apostles and have some idea on what this trip can entail.

That said, it’s a wonderful trip!  We will spend our time mostly on the east end of the island in all the little bays and fingers.  The camping in the shelters are downright decadent!  (OK, I usually sleep on rocks).  We’ll also try to do an open crossing to Passage Island if weather permits and we will go around Blake’s Point, a place that has sunk many a boat in the past.

There will be a $300 deposit for the trip I’ll need in May sometime.  This will cover the ferry ride over to the park and also go towards some of the motel fees we’ll need.  My guess, on the high end, this trip may cost over $400.
